The Parent’s Association of EGS have been fundraising tirelessly over the last 18 months to raise €150,000 towards the overall cost of €1.4 million for a new sports hall at East Glendalough School. This is a much needed addition for the school and its 360 pupils, and will be a fantastic new facility for the wider community in Wicklow. Great progress has been made with over €80,000 raised to date. The final hurdle is to reach the target and for building to commence within the next few months.
Currently the pupils have all their indoor sports in a small hall that has not been upgraded since the school was built. In a climate where a huge focus is being placed on the fitness, health and wellbeing of our younger generation, this project aims to offer a facility that will encourage and motivate teenagers to participate fully in sport. As local rugby international Josh Van Der Flier states: “The Sports Hall will be an incredible asset for the community of Wicklow and for sport in the town, especially for the younger generations who will be given every opportunity to thrive and develop through sport”.
