BROOKS ASTERIA FOR MEN – REVIEW
Since completing the Ironman Barcelona, Wicklow triathlete Scott Graham is now building towards the Ironman Cork where he aims to improve on his 8th place finish and put himself in the mix for a Kona slot. As he works on his strength over the winter, he’s testing out the new Brooks Bedlam and Brooks Asteria which he’ll race in and use for track and tempo runs. F0llow Scott’s progress on Instagram.
Brooks Asteria Review for The Sports Room – by Scott Graham
I was looking for a light, fast shoe which offered a reasonable level of support and the Brooks Asteria certainly delivers. As soon as you lace them up you can feel the speed and you instantly have a spring in your step! They are also incredibly comfortable and fit very nicely with a heel collar and lacing system which locked my foot in securely.
My first run in the shoes was a track session on a wet and windy night. I liked them from the very first lap. The 9mm heal to toe drop means I naturally landed on my midfoot at an easy pace and forefoot when running faster. They gripped well on the greasy corners and despite not being very fit I just wanted to run hard in them!
The stability for overpronators is really good for such as light shoe and I found the level of cushioning to be better than expected. Performance is always the most important thing for me when selecting a shoe but the Brooks Asteria also ticks the box in terms of looking good! I have them in red and black, but you can get them in a fluorescent yellow-black which also looks very cool.
The Brooks Asteria is a very versatile shoe. I’ll continue to use them for track and tempo runs and plan to race a half and full distance Ironman in them.
I’d recommend the Brooks Asteria for mild overpronators looking to race anything from 5km up to a full marathon. Racing shoes aren’t for everyone and some runners may need a little extra support but the team in The Sports Room will point you in the right direction.
