This is the shoe for you if you are…a neutral runner, running longer distances like a 10k, half marathon or full marathon. It’s a lightweight, high mileage runner, with super cushioning and a great fit.
First a look at the upgrades from the Ghost 8
With a new plush interior and refined mesh upper, the Ghost 9 running shoe delivers a smooth ride and balanced feel, but with a more seamless fit so it feels lighter than ever before. The main difference between the Ghost 8 and Ghost 9 is its improved upper with a slightly roomier fit.
Let’s take a closer look at what makes brooks different…
Lots of cushioning
Brooks use their signature DNA cushioning system in the Ghost 9. This is a responsive reactive cushioning that gives bounce back to you as you run. The DNA midsole adapts to your weight, pace, gait and running surface to offer a customised cushioned experience. When you’re trying the Brooks Ghost 9 in the shop, it feels soft initially, but you’ll notice the shoe stiffens as you run. You need this solidity under foot, especially for longer runs. The cushioning in the Ghost 9 doesn’t stop in the midsole. This shoe comes with a plush interior too – plenty of soft cushioning around the heel and tongue areas.
Smooth heel to toe transition
The DNA cushioning throughout the midsole (rather than just at toe and heel) helps give a smoother transition from heel to toe. But, it’s the Segmented Crash Pad on the sole of the shoe that really delivers. The grooves on the sole of the Ghost 9 absorb shock and make for a more comfortable landing. You run more efficiently when you have a smooth heel to toe transition and the caterpillar shaped shock absorber or Segmented Crash Pad works a treat here. The Omega flex grooves on the sole of the Ghost 9 expand and contract as you move so you experience a more flexible and comfortable run.
If you like a bit of room in the toe box area, the Ghost 9 has a newly engineered mesh upper and seamless stitching provides support and more room for feet – particularly nice as you come to the end of a long run, or if you have wide foot.
All in all, the Ghost 9 is a great value running shoe. At €140, it’s a lightweight, reliable runner, good for tempo training and if you’re pounding the pavements for longer stretches. An award winner too, the Ghost 9 has been named Best Buy in the Runner’s World 2016 Fall Shoe Guide.
